- NAME -

When you write "Kameyama" in Japanese,
"Kame" represents the word "tortoise" and "Yama" represents the word "mountain".

The tortoise mountain.... ?
There are several reasons why it was named like so.
The strongest reason is...

(神の住む山)the MOUNTAIN where the GOD (= KAMI) live>>>>

>>>>(神山)the GOD MOUNTAIN (kami yama) >>> Kame yama

- HISTORY-
There are TOKAIDO which was a main road in Edo period from Tokyo to Kyoto
and there are 2 Shukuba-machi (town station with inns) in Kameyama.
Kameyama-juku and Seki-juku.

Kameyama Juku is the 46th town station.
It was 2.5km long and it was said to be quite gorgeous because Kameyama juku had the meaning of the Kameyama Castle's castle city as well.

Seki juku is the 47th town station.
It is 1.6km long and still remains more than 200 of old houses, factories and stores along the street.

my sweet home

Kameyama.

This is the place I'd like to introduce !!

WHERE THE HECK IS KAMEYAMA?

I can read your mind... haha

Well,,,,
the answer to that question is....

 HERE !

yep, this is a picture of the weather forecast today(1st Dec,2011).

as you can see, Kameyama is in Northern Mie.

much more zoom to Kameyama,

From this map,
it looks like Kameyama is beside ocean, but actually no.
Kameyama is a city surrounded by mountains and lands.

Population is around 50 thousands.
It is around 190km2 big. which is a size smaller than Wakayama-shi.
Half of the land is filled with mountains or woods.

Candle making is the biggest local industry
known as KAMEYAMA RO-SOKU(Kameyama Candle)

But recently, SHARP -Kameyama factory- might be more famous.
where they produce the Kameyama model TV of SHARP.
known as SEKAI NO KAMEYAMA(The World's Kameyama)

This is the breif introduction of Kameyama, my hometown.
